Tiberius was cold and unpopular in his manners, awkward and even timid in his carriage, but a master of dissimulation. His mother Livia Drusilla gave birth to him when she was just thirteen years of age. Tiberius ruled from 14AD to 37AD and was remembered for being a great general but also a dark ruler who didn’t really want to be emperor. Following the death of his son Drusus,the quality of his rule dropped and ended in terror. He then exiled himself from Rome and his grand nephew succeeded him.
Augustus
Augustus was the very first emperor of Rome. The proper name he was given was Octavian but the name Augustus was given to him by the senate to mark his outstanding achievements. Before falling out with Mark Antony the two avenged his father Caesar’s death. He then created a new constitution after defeating Mark Antony with the famous Egyptian Cleopatra. He used his time as ruler well as he made roads, aqueducts and buildings. He was not only the first, but one of the best Roman emperors ever.
Justinian
Justinian was to be considered as the last great Roman emperor ever. After the West had fallen to barbarians he ruled the eastern side well. His great generals Belisarius and Narses reconquered the main parts of the empire including Rome. known to have collected the many Roman laws and created a unified code of laws, the so-called 'Justinian Code'. This code formed the basis of all systems of law in the western world. He also constructed great buildings in his capital, the city of Constantinople. His most outstanding building is the great church Santa Sophia, which today is the famous mosque 'Aya Sophia' in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
